BOX SCORE
LIVONIA,
Mich.
– Three first half
goals were more than enough as the Madonna men’s soccer team rolled to a 4-0 win
over visiting Indiana Tech on Saturday at Greenmead Field in Livonia. With the
win Madonna captured the 2007 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference regular
season championship.
Following a
pre-game ceremony where the MU Athletic Department honored the Crusaders’ four
seniors – T. J. Djokic, Pat Kolodziejczak, Kris Lyons and Darrel Quinn - Jacob
Rosiek got Madonna (11-2-2; 9-1-1 WHAC) on the board in the 28th minute as he took a loose
ball off of an Emilio Giorgi shot and got his shot past Josh Anderson for a 1-0
Crusader lead.
Giorgi made
it 2-0 when he took a Quinn pass at the top of the 18-yard box and fired his
shot to the upper left 90 of the net for his fifth goal of the season. Less than
two minutes later, Makesi Lewis made it 3-0 when he took a Daniel Amaya pass and
sent a toe ball through Anderson’s legs and a 3-0 lead.
The match
was much slower in the second half as neither team really mounted much of an
offense as the match was played in the midfield.
The fourth Madonna goal came in
the 89th minute as Keith Sied took a long pass from Chris Lafontaine and sent a rolling shot in on Anderson that the Tech keeper couldn’t get a
hand on for the final MU tally.
For the
game Madonna out shot Tech (4-10-0; 2-8-0 WHAC) 20-9, including an 11-2 edge in shots on goal. Giorgi
led the offense for MU with his goal and assist. Lewis extended his streak of
games with a goal to seven (each game he has been in uniform for). Lyons had to
make one save, while also getting one from his backline.
The
Crusaders wrap up the regular season on Tuesday in a 4pm match at Siena Heights.
