- Madonna University forward Makesi Lewis
(Diego Martin, Trinidad) and forward/goalie Mark Pikula (Dearborn,
Mich./Dearborn) have been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC)
Men’s Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for Oct. 1-7.
Lewis, a freshman scored the five goals and had one during a week that saw the
Crusaders go 2-0 and assert themselves in the driver’s seat in the WHAC race.
Lewis scored four goals, including the game winner in a 7-0 win at Concordia on
Saturday after scoring a goal and adding an assist earlier in the week in
Madonna’s 3-0 win at Cornerstone.
Pikula, a sophomore was pressed into duty as the Crusaders’ keeper for
Saturday’s match at Concordia after injuries had depleted the Madonna goalie
ranks to nil. Pikula made eight saves in the Crusaders’ win over the Cardinals.
He added an assist on the game winning goal as well.
