Playing its second game in
less than 24 hours, the Madonna men’s soccer team traveled to Albion College on
Saturday and came away with a 2-0 shut out win. Doran Drai and T.J. Djkoic
scored the goals for MU while Kristofer Lyons made five saves in posting his
first shutout of the season.
The Crusaders
got on the board in the 23rd minute when Drai deposited is first goal
of the season into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
MU had a chance
to add to the lead in the 42nd minute when Jacob Rosiek’s corner kick
found the head of Djkoic but Djkoic’s header went just wide, keeping it 1-0 in
favor of Madonna.
Just after
halftime, the Crusaders had another scoring chance as Drai took a penalty kick
but his shot was saved by AC’s Jordan Thomas.
Djkoic iced the
game away with his free kick from the top of the box in the 68th
minute that found the netting for a 2-0 MU lead.
The game turned
into a chippy one with 34 fouls called on the two teams, including four yellow
cards and a red card.
Madonna is back
in action on Tuesday as the Crusaders host Davenport at 4pm in the WHAC opener
at Greenmead Field.
