BOX SCORE

Adam Kerfoot carried MU with a career high 31 points in a double overtime loss to Spring Arbor.

LIVONIA, Mich. -- Josh Brandt hit a leaning runner from the baseline as time expired to give Spring Arbor a 97-95 double overtime win over Madonna Tuesday night.

Brandt controlled his own missed three-pointer and flipped the right hand shot all in one motion to stun the host Crusaders (4-12).  Madonna clawed their way back from a seven-point second half deficit only to fall in heartbreaking fashion.

Spring Arbor (11-5) and Madonna finished the first half tied at 35-35.  In the second half, the Cougars seemed to be on their way to a double digit win before
Adam Kerfoot (Gaylord, Mich./St. Mary HS) scored seven points over a two minutes span, which saw the Crusaders regain a 63-62 lead with just over six minutes left in regulation.

Kerfoot buried a three-pointer from straight away that gave Madonna a 74-69 lead with 2:16 left in the second half before the Cougars reeled off a 7-2 run which knotted the game at 76-76 as time expired in regulation.

In the first extra period the lead changed hands six times as Spring Arbor's Rob Boss tipped in his own miss to give the Cougars a two-point lead with just 0.76 seconds left on the clock.  Time expired on the clock with Spring Arbor seemingly winning the game 76-74.  After discussion, the officials gave a technical foul to the SAU bench for rushing the court prior to the time expiring.  Kerfoot toed the line with the whole gym watching and calmly sank both technical foul shots to send the game into a second overtime period.

The final frame of the night saw Spring Arbor build a four-point lead before MU tied the game at 95-95 on a pair of Kerfoot free throws with 7.8 seconds left on the clock.  Darby Decker hurried the ball up-court setting up Brandt's heroics.

Kerfoot finished the contest with a career high 31 points and added nine assists.  Junior forward
DJ Bridges (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) poured in 27 points and collected seven rebounds.  Senior forward Derrick Mudri (Fowlerville, Mich./Fowlerville HS) and Keith Hearns (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS) each scored in double digits with 15 points and 10 points respectively.

Jared List (19), Brandt (17), Justin DeKock (16), Boss (15) and Decker (15) all scored in double digits to help the Cougars escape the Activities Center with the victory.

Madonna will now begin preparing for the conference portion of the schedule as the Crusaders will host Davenport on Wednesday, January 3, 2007 in the nightcap of a doubleheader with the Crusaders' women's team.  MU and the Panthers will tip off the first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference match of the season at 7:30 p.m.
