St. Xavier Pulls Away in Second Half for 77-56 Win

Derrick Mudri moved up the Madonna all-time scoring list to number 10 after scoring nine points on Friday against St. Xavier.

LIVONIA, Mich. -- Junior center Jonathan Rudnick carried St. Xavier in the second half as the Cougars pulled away from Madonna for a 77-56 win in the first round of the 2006 Michigan Educational Credit Union Classic in the Activities Center.

The 6-8 post scored 12 points, collected seven rebounds and swatted three shots all in second half action as St. Xavier (8-2) outscored Madonna (4-10) 44-22 en route to the 21-point win.

Madonna's
Derrick Mudri (Fowlerville, Mich./Fowlerville HS) took sole possession of 10th place on the all-time Crusaders scoring list with a three-pointer early in the first half.  Mudri, who scored nine points on Friday, has 861 career points as a Crusader.

Senior forward
Mike Rashad (Inkster, Mich./Wayne Memorial HS) led the Crusaders with 13 points on the night.  Junior forward DJ Bridges (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) recorded 12 points and a team high six boards in the loss.

Madonna led by one point (34-33) at the half behind the strength of a .467 shooting percentage on 14-of-30 shooting.

The second half saw St. Xavier feed the ball into the post countless times while shooting 19-for-32 (.594) and racking up 40 points in the paint. 

For the game, the Cougars connected on 32-of-60 attempts (.533), including 6-of-14 attempts (.429) from behind the arc.

St. Xavier's Paris VonShae Davis led all scorers with 16 points.

In the opening game of the classic, 15th-ranked St. Francis (IN) held off Concordia for a 69-64 win.  Concordia will square off with St. Xavier on Saturday (Dec. 16) in a 12:00 p.m. (ET) start and Madonna will finish up the weekend against St. Francis at 2:00 p.m.
