Crusaders Win Consolation Game 73-68

Derrick Mudri scored 17 points in MU's 73-68 win over Grace Bible College on Saturday in Holland, Michigan.

HOLLAND, Mich. -- After jumping out to a quick 9-0 lead, the Madonna men's basketball team had to battle to a 73-68 win over Grace Bible in the consolation game of the Holland Sentinel Community Tournament hosted by Hope College on Saturday.

Mike Rashad (Inkster, Mich./Wayne Memorial HS) led the Crusaders for the second straight game with 19 points and nine rebounds.  Senior forward Derrick Mudri (Fowlerville, Mich./Fowlerville HS) added 17 points, four rebounds, three steals and one blocked shot in the win for MU.

Madonna held a 14-point lead in the first half, however, the Tigers came roaring back to trail by only four (42-38) at the half.  Grace Bible would eventually overtake MU and build a nine-point lead with 16:44 left in the second half.

The Crusaders would battle back to eventually take the lead for good with under five minutes left in the contest.

Madonna shot .415 (27-of-65) from the field, yet were only able to shoot .276 (8-of-29) beyond the arc.  The Crusaders were out rebounded by the Tigers, 33-25, however MU forced 17 turnovers, which turned into 17 points.

Madonna will return to action on Friday, Dec. 15 as the Crusaders host the Madonna University Classic, a two-day event which includes Concordia (MI), St. Xavier (IL) and St. Francis (IN).  MU will square off with St. Xavier at 8:00 p.m. (ET) on Friday and then host St. Francis at 2:00 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, Dec. 16.
