LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna University men's basketball program received today (Friday, May 18) a Letter of Intent from their fifth high school standout for the 2007-08 season, Canton high school big man Ryan Waidmann.  Waidmann joins Gordie Hyde, a 6-9 center from Richland, Mich.; Tyler Coker, a 6-5 guard from Whitmore Lake, Mich.; Geoff Gaylor, a 6-9 center/forward from Roscommon, Mich.; and Josh Gay, a 6-0 guard from Woodlan, Ind.

"We are excited to have five high-caliber student-athletes join the Madonna Basketball program," said MU coach Chuck Henry. "All five young men are quality people and exceptional student-athletes who will fit into our program and the University. We think they will have a very promising future here at Madonna."

Waidmann, a 6-7 forward, inked with Madonna at his high school yesterday.  As a senior, Waidmann was named team MVP while averaging 13 points per game for the Chiefs.  He was also named the All-State team by the Detroit Free Press (honorable mention) after leading the Chiefs in rebounds and assists.  A three year varsity letterwinner, Waidmann is a two-time All-Conference and All-Division selection and was twice named his squad's best offensive player and top rebounder.  Waidmann was recently named the 11th best power forward in the '07 class by Stephen Bell of Bankhoop.com.

Gay comes to Madonna from Woodlan, Indiana, hometown to Crusader all-time scorer and current assistant coach Noel Emenhiser.  The 6-0 guard averaged 15.8 points per game as a senior while earning All-Conference honors.  Gay also dished out 5.5 assists per game and collected just over four rebounds per contest.  Gay was one of 12 players selected to represent Northern Indiana on the Nancy Rehm Indiana All-Star team in a 'border wars' game vs. Northern Ohio.

Gaylor, who signed his Letter of Intent on May 8th is a 6-9, 200 pound forward who averaged 14 points, 11 rebounds and 7.6 blocks per game as a senior for Roscommon high school.  Gaylor was named a first-team All-Conference and first-team All-Area selection as a senior and is ranked as the 2nd best power forward in the '07 class by Bankhoop.com.

"The players and coaches at Madonna made me feel this is the best place for me to be," said Gaylor. I loved the atmosphere and the program coach Henry is building at MU, I am excited to be a part of the great recruiting class."

Waidmann, Gay and Gaylor join a pair of signed high school seniors, Coker and Hyde, who committed to MU earlier in the signing period.

Coker is a 6-4 swingman who finished second in scoring in his conference at 19.2 points per game en route to sixth-team all-state honors following his senior campaign. He helped the Trojans to a 12-9 mark overall and a 7-7 record in conference play as a senior, grabbing 6.6 rebounds per contest, while dishing out 2.1 assists per game. Coker is the younger brother of current MU guard Drew Coker on the 2007-08 roster.

Hyde was the first prep start to commit from the class of 2007 when he signed a Letter of Intent January 15th.  The 6-9 center from Gull Lake high school.  Hyde, who played AAU ball last summer for Camp Darryl U-17, was ranked as the No. 63 overall player in the state of Michigan by Mitch McCabe of the Detroit Free Press and the 4th best center in the '07 class by InsidePrepSports.net.

All five signees will enroll at Madonna for the fall semester which begins in September.

The Crusaders lost four players from their 2006-07 roster as Adam Kerfoot, Derrick Mudri and Doug Creighton finished up their senior seasons while Nick Bortz, a freshman forward from Walled Lake, Michigan announced he is leaving the MU program to pursue other educational opportunities.

Henry is not done adding to the class of 2007 and he expects to sign three to four more players in the next month.

"We are extremely happy with this class of freshman," said Henry.  "They all bring very strong individual accolades to our program, but we are still working to make the roster better every day."
