LIVONIA, MI Madonna University men’s basketball coach Chuck Henry has announced the signing of Gull Lake High School standout Gordy Hyde for the 2007-08 season.

Hyde, a 6-9 center, committed to Madonna during the Kellogg Arena Holiday Tournament and becomes the Crusaders first signee for ’07-08.

“We are pleased to have signed Gordy,” said Henry.  “He is a solid person and a player that can develop into a very effective post player in our conference.”

Hyde, who played AAU ball last summer for Camp Darryl U-17, was ranked as the No. 63 overall player in the state of Michigan by Mitch McCabe of the Detroit Free Press and the No. 4 center in the 2007 class by InsidePrepSports.net.

“We have looked to sign a player of size for some time now,” Henry said.  “At 6- 9 Gordy gives us that type of player.  I think that Madonna University is a great fit for Gordy and that he is a great fit for our needs in the Madonna basketball program.”

Hyde plans on studying Education at Madonna University, beginning next fall.  He resides in Richland, Michigan with his mother Jeri Schuler.
