LIVONIA, Mich. -- The
Madonna University men's basketball team could not overcome costly turnovers and
poor free throw shooting down the stretch, falling 81-80 in overtime to
Rochester College in the home opener Tuesday (Nov. 13) in the Activities Center.
Four Crusaders finished in double
figures, led by Cedric Sims' 21 point night. Rochester (4-1) was led by
Tyler Leipprandt's 20 points and Andrew Clark's 14 rebounds.
Madonna (1-3) shot a blistering .519 in the first half, only to see their 36-29
halftime lead disappear as Rochester outscored MU 40-33 in the second half and
12-11 in the extra frame.
The Crusaders shot themselves on
the foot numerous times with 23 total turnovers, including 18 by the starting
five.
Missed free throws also contributed
to the loss, as MU went just 18-for-31 from the charity stripe.
The Crusaders will now take to the road, traveling to Huntington, Indiana, for
the Huntington University tournament on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 16-17).
The Crusaders will face Campbellsville (Kent.) Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for
6:00 p.m. (ET).
