GRAND RAPIDS,
Mich. –
Too many made three point field goals by Aquinas and cold shooting
from the floor added up to a 20 point loss for the Madonna men's
basketball team Saturday in Grand Rapids by a 75-55 final inside the
AQ Fieldhouse in a battle for first place.
With the loss Madonna fell
to 14-11 overall and 6-3 in the WHAC while 16th ranked Aquinas improved to 19-6
overall and slid into first place alone at 7-2.
After taking a brief 3-2
lead on a D.J. Bridges (Canton, Mich.) triple, MU never led again
and saw AQ knock down eight first half three pointers and take a 45-28 lead into
the locker room. The Saints shot 60 percent from the floor in the opening 20
minutes to just 36 percent for the Crusaders.
The second half was much
of the same as AQ made shots and Madonna could not find an offensive rhythm,
trailing by as many as 27. late in the game.
Jon Battle
(Cleveland, Ohio) led the Madonna side with 20 points while Bridges and
Cedric Sims (Canton, Mich.) each had 10 markers.
The Crusaders have little
time to lick their wounds as the Wolves of UM-Dearborn come calling to Livonia
on Wednesday night as he back end of a women's and men's double header. The MU
women tip off at 5:30pm with the men following at 7:30pm.
