Career Nights Not Enough in Loss
Bryan Slaughter scored a career high 17 points for Madonna Wednesday night.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Despite career-high nights from Bryan Slaughter (Westland, Mich.), Drew Coker (Whitmore Lake, Mich.) and Jordan Hoke (Grand Rapids, Mich.), the Madonna University men's basketball team lost a 76-47 decision to the Concordia Cardinals Wednesday night (Jan. 23) in Cardinal Field House.

Trailing by 14 points in the first half, the Crusaders battled back to within eight at the intermission, cutting the Cardinal lead to 25-17, despite shooting just .187 from the field. Madonna found themselves down by 18 with 13:48 to go in the second half before a 10-0 run, keyed by five Coker points, cut the lead to 43-35 with just over 12 minutes to play.  Madonna (12-10, 4-2 WHAC) was unable to get any closer from there, as Concordia (7-13, 3-3 WHAC) went on a 15-2 run over the next five minutes of play to put away the visitors.

Slaughter led all scorers with 17 points on 7-of-22 shooting.  He also added six rebounds and two assists.  Coker contributed 11 of his 13 points in the second half while senior Karvens Paillere (Romulus, Mich.) added a career high 11 rebounds.

Concordia was led by Marquis Turley’s 15 points and Anthoney Bates’ seven rebound and five assists.

Madonna continues its road swing with a trip to Grand Rapids, Mich., for a battle against the Panthers of Davenport University Saturday (Jan. 26) at Duncan Lake Middle School. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. and is part of a double-header with the women’s teams tipoff slated for 1:00 p.m.
