DEARBORN, Mich.
-- A 22-point, 12 rebound performance from
Jon Battle (Cleveland, Ohio) was more than enough for
the Madonna men to cruise to a 96-81 win at UM-Dearborn on Saturday.
MU is now 11-8 on the year and 2-1 in WHAC action, while UMD falls
to 7-10 and 0-3 on the year.
Dearborn led just once in the game at
2-0 and after two ties early in the game, it was all Madonna as the Crusaders
used a 57 percent shooting percentage in the first half to build out a large
lead. MU held its biggest lead – 18 points – on two separate occasions in the
final minutes of the half to take a 50-32 lead into the break.
Coming out of halftime, the Crusaders
extended their lead to as many as 33 on a D.J. Bridges (Canton Mich.)
lay-up with 6:56 left in the game. MU took its foot off of the gas a little in
the final minutes, allowing UMD to cut the lead to 15 with 2:02 left, but the
Wolves got no closer and the game ended at 96-81 in favor of the Crusaders.
Charlie Henry (Canton, Mich.)
helped the Madonna cause with 19 points and Cedric Sims (Canton,
Mich.) added 11 in the win. Sean Mattia scored 22 for Michigan-Dearborn.
The Crusaders stay on the road,
traveling to Grand Rapids on Wednesday to battle with Cornerstone. Tip-off
inside Mol Arena is set for 7:30 pm.
