GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - -
Sophomore Caitlin "Goose" Steele took home her second career medalist
honor as the Madonna women's golf team captured the first tournament title in
program history with a five stroke win over Indiana Tech at the second WHAC
Jamboree on Tuesday. MU shot 344 to Tech's 349 at the Golf Club at Thornapple
Pointe.
"Goose
had a great round for us today," said head coach Scott
Marzolino following the round. "The future is very bright for MU golf and
today was just a slight preview into that. If we can continue to play like we
did today and get solid play in our line up we will be tough to contend with.
With four players in the top-10 that says something about where we have come
from and more importantly, where we are going."
Freshman
Chelsea Bathurst was fourth with an 84, while sophomore Sara Simnitch
carded an 88, good for eighth. Rounding out the top-10 finishes for MU was
freshman Jacqueline McCormick's 90, good for 10th place.
The
Crusaders return to action this Saturday, playing WHAC Jamboree three at the
Tecumseh Country Club starting at Noon.
