signed a letter of intent to play golf at MU starting this Fall. |
LIVONIA,
Mich. - -
Head women’s golf coach Scott Marzolino announced the fist
student-athlete in his 2008 recruiting class with the signing of
Mott Community College transfer Sara Simnitch to a letter of
intent. Simnitch will continue her academic and athletic careers
this fall and plans to major in broadcast communications and
religious studies.
“Getting
a player of Sara’s quality will greatly help our program,” commented Marzolino
following the signing. “She brings experience at the collegiate level and has
the tools to step into our line up right away.”
A 2006
graduate of Swartz Creek High School, Simnitch (Swartz Creek, Mich.)
helped the Dragons to a state championship in 2003. She was named all-Big 9
Conference in each of her four seasons on the varsity squad, culminating in a
first team selection as a senior.
Simnitch
spent the 2006-07 school year at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, Ohio.
She was a second team all-American Mideast Conference selection for the Panthers
in addition to picking up her team’s player of the year award. While at ODU,
Simnitch posted five top-5 finishes, including taking home medalist honors at
the Siena Heights Tournament. She spent this season at Mott Community College in
Flint.
The
Madonna women’s golf team returns five letter winners from this season’s team
that placed fifth – the highest ever finish in school history – at the NAIA
Region VIII championship.
