Crusaders Win First Tournament Title in Program History

Steve South fired a 69, finishing in second place after a 3-under par performance on Saturday.

CANTON, Mich. -- The Madonna men's golf team has come a long way in just four years.  On Saturday, the Crusaders notched their first ever tournament title at the WHAC Jamboree #5 at Fellows Creek Golf Club in Canton.

As a team, the Crusaders carded a 302 and finished one stroke ahead of league leading Davenport and Aquinas.

Freshman
Steve South (Westland, MI/Livonia Franklin HS) paced the Crusaders with a second place finish after shooting a 3-under par 69 in wet conditions on the MU home course.

Junior
Aaron Cheesman (Canton, MI/Salem HS) shot a 76 and tied for seventh place in the fifth league event of the season.

Senior
Steve Robinson (Livonia, MI/Churchill HS) carded a 78 and finished in 13th place.  Sophomore Matt Robinson (Livonia, MI/Churchill HS) rounded out the Crusaders scoring efforts with a 79 on the day.

Junior
Jono McMahon (Windsor, ON/Massey HS) and freshman Justin Taurence (Wyandotte, MI/Roosevelt HS) also competed for Madonna, turning in scores of 81 and 83 respectively.

The Crusaders will return to action on September 28 when they compete at WHAC Jamboree #6, the final conference event, at Thornapple Pointe Golf Club in Grand Rapids.
