Aaron Cheesman fired a team best one-under-par 71 at the first WHAC Jamboree for Madonna.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Madonna junior Aaron Cheesman (Canton, MI/Salem HS) fired a one-under-par 71 to lead the Crusaders to a third place finish with a team score of 303 (+15) at  the first Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Jamboree, hosted by Aquinas College at L.E. Kauffman Golf Course in Grand Rapids, Michigan (Sept. 5).

Cheesman's score was good for a third-place individual finish, just two strokes behind Davenport's Adam Thomas for the top score.  Thomas helped lead Davenport to a first place team finish.

MU sits 12 strokes behind the Panthers (291) and just three strokes behind second-place Cornerstone (300) with five more conference meets to go.

Tuesday's meet also marked the debut of men's head coach Steve Mato who saw junior Jon McMahon (Windsor, Ontario/Massey HS) post a four-over-par 75, and freshman Justin Taurence (Wyandotte, MI/Wyandotte HS), a six-over-par 77 to round out MU's top three.

Senior Steve Robinson (Livonia, MI/Churchill HS) and freshman Steve South (Westland, MI/Franklin HS) also competed for the Crusaders on Tuesday, recording scores of 80 and 81 respectively.

The Crusaders are back on the links Wednesday, September 13 at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Grand Rapids for the second WHAC Jamboree, hosted by Cornerstone University.
