LIVONIA, Mich. -- Three runners have signed NAIA Letters of Intent to attend Madonna University, announced Crusaders men’s cross country Patrick Daugherty on Tuesday.

Joining the team will be Max Guy (Livonia, Mich./Stevenson HS), Brian Robertson (Livonia, Mich./Churchill HS) and Jacob Burman (Monroe, Mich./Monroe HS).

“I am very happy and excited about the three young men who will be joining our team this fall,” Daugherty said. “These three signees will complement our three returning runners from last year very well.”

Guy was a four-year varsity letterwinner in track and cross country at Stevenson High School.  He has spent the last two years at Grand Valley State University where he was named to the Dean’s List.

“Max has an outstanding work ethic,” Daugherty said.  “He has physically matured from his high school days to the point that we expect him to be one of our top runners next season.”

Guy is the son of Robert and Mary Guy and plans on majoring in nursing beginning in the fall.

Robertson earned three varsity letters in cross country and four in track as a prep athlete at Churchill High School.  As a senior, Robertson earned second team all-area and third team all-conference honors en route to becoming a state qualifier in cross country.  He also qualified for the state meet in track as a member of the 4x800 relay team.

“I have worked with Brian for the last three years at Churchill,” Daugherty said. “He has shown tremendous amounts of improvement during his high school career.  There is no doubt that his best days of running are still in front of him.”

Robertson, who was an Honor Roll student at Churchill, is the son of Ronald and Mary Robertson.  He will enroll in the accounting program at Madonna in the fall.

Burman has been a two-year varsity letterwinner in cross country and track at Monroe High School.  As a senior, he finished a 5K race in a personal best 16:58.  He also set a personal best on the track in the 1600 meter run at 4:37.

“Jacob comes to us from a very good cross country program,” Daugherty said.  “He has just started to really develop his abilities as a runner, but I am glad that he chose Madonna to further his cross country and academic careers.”

Burman is the son of John and Kelli Burman and will enroll in the education program at Madonna this fall.

The Madonna men’s cross country team has steadily improved under the guidance of Daugherty, who returns three runners for the 2007 season.
