LIVONIA, Mich. -- Madonna University cross country head coach Patrick Daugherty has announced the signing of Franklin High school senior Kari Saarela for the 2007-08 season.

The Livonia, Michigan, native has earned three varsity letters in cross country and four in track.

“Kari is a great addition for our team,” said Daugherty.  “We are excited for her to join our program next fall.”

Saarela was named Most Improved on her squad last fall and earned WLAA all-division, all-Wayne County honorable mention and Observer third team all-area awards.  She also posted a career best time at 20:39 during the season.  Saarela also earned Top Newcomer honors during her sophomore season.

Saarela, who is the daughter of Norman Saarela and Cheryl Saarela, is planning on pursuing a degree in pre-pharmacy at Madonna University beginning next fall.
