Crusaders Put on Offensive Show at WHAC Tournament

Kevin Zerbo hit a pair of home runs in MU's 17-1 win over Indiana Tech in game one of the best-of-three championship series.


 

LIVONIA, Mich. - - The Madonna baseball team stands alone, undefeated after day one of the 2008 WHAC Championship Tournament, defeating Concordia 6-2 and Indiana Tech 17-1 at Ilitch Ballpark Thursday afternoon.

The Crusaders are now just one win away from the tournament title, leading the best-of-three championship series with the Warriors, heading into tomorrow's action beginning at noon.

GAME ONE
The top-seeded and 24th ranked Crusaders scored three times in the first inning and let starting pitcher Will Kennedy do the rest on their way to a 6-2 win over Concordia in their first game of the day.

Ryan Morrow and Dave Herrick each posted two hits for the Crusaders, with Herrick adding a pair of RBIs.

Aaron Hacias and Tim McEvoy each posted a pair of hits for Concordia who was eliminated with the loss.

Kennedy went 7 and two thirds innings with five strikeouts to get the victory, his seventh of the season. Sean Maher earned the save, his first on the year.

GAME TWO
In the first game of a best of three championship series between the Crusaders and Warriors, Madonna's offense exploded for 17 runs and 17 hits and benefited from nine Tech errors to cruise to the 17-1 victory.

Six Crusaders posted multi-hit games, including three apiece from Zack McMillin, Drew Adamiec and Kevin Zerbo.

Zerbo, the WHAC Co-Player of the Year also launched a pair of home runs and finished with a game high five RBIs.

Starting pitcher Eric Wendling benefited from the hot MU bats, going the distance while scattering six hits and striking out two for his fifth win of the year.
