CHICAGO, Ill. –  For the second straight day, the Madonna baseball team split its double header at St. Xavier in Chicago. The Crusaders won game one 7-3 but dropped the night cap 8-1. The split moves Madonna to 19-9 on the season.

GAME ONE
MU scored a pair of runs in the opening frame to jump out to a 2-0 lead. Levi Cheshire (Troy, Mich.) and Shawn Little (Canton, Mich.) hit back-to-back singles with one way in the first. Cheshire, who moved up to third on Little's knock, scored on an error by the Cougars to give MU a 1-0 lead. Little came in on a Kevin Zerbo (Farmington, Mich.) single to extend the lead to 2-0.

The Crusaders tacked on two more runs in the second as John McCracken (Pinckney, Mich.) led off with a single and advanced to second on a passed ball. Scott Boyer (Flat Rock, Mich.) drew a walk and Zack McMillin (Grand Ledge, Mich.) singled to load the bases for Ryan Morrow (Taylor, Mich.) and Morrow delivered a single that plated McCracken and Boyer to push the Madonna lead to 4-0 after the top of the second.

The third inning saw the royal and gold add on two more on back-to-back homers by Zerbo and Patrick Kenny (Roseville, Mich.) to open the inning and give MU a 6-0 cushion. The blasts were Zerbo's third of the weekend and Kenny's second in the four game series.

St. Xavier got three runs back in its half of the third off of MU starter Will Kennedy (Westland, Mich.) to cut the Crusaders' lead in half, but that would be all of the scoring for the Cougars in the game as Kennedy struck out four in his six innings of work. MU added another run in the fifth for the 7-3 final and the win.

Kennedy picked up his fourth win of the year while Zerbo was 4-for-4 with his homer and two runs scored. Kenny was 2-for-4 with a homer in the win.

GAME TWO
As hot as the Madonna bats were in game one of the day, they were that cold in game two as the Crusaders fell 8-1. MU saw SXU score two times in the first before getting a run back in the top of the second as Kenny and Boyer led off with back-to-back singles and Kenny crossed home on a Cougar miscue to make it 2-1.

The Cougars added six runs in their half of the second to blow the game open and earn the split for the day and for the weekend.

Sean Maher (Oxford, Mich.) took the loss for MU while Mike Cauzillo (West Bloomfield, Mich.) was 2-for-3 in the loss.

Madonna returns to action on Wednesday, getting back into WHAC play with a 1:30pm double header at Concordia.
