Will Kennedy delivers strike three for his 200th career strikeout, become the first MU pitcher to reach the plateau in a game one win over Aquinas Wednesday.

LIVONIA, Mich. –  The Madonna University baseball team split a pair of key WHAC contests versus visiting Aquinas College Wednesday (April 2), at Ilitch Ballpark.  The Crusaders (16-7, 6-2) erased a two-run deficit in game one for starting pitcher Will Kennedy (Westland, Mich.) who picked up the win and his 200th career strikeout, becoming the first ever MU pitcher to reach that plateau.

Senior DH Dave Herrick (Westland, Mich.) totaled three hits on the day while freshman Shawn Little (Canton, Mich.) scored a pair of runs in game one and Zack McMillin (Grand Ledge, Mich.) delivered the game winning RBI.

The Crusaders used a three-run sixth inning to pick up the game one victory.  Down 3-2, MU started their comeback with a RBI single by Little to tie the game 3-3.  McMillin then delivered a bases-loaded fielders choice to put MU up 4-3 and  Jeff Sonnenberg (Lansing, Mich.) added the insurance run on a pinch-hit RBI single to left.

Game two proved to be a pitchers duel between MU starter Ryan Bardoni (Warren, Mich.) and Aquinas starter Michael Giddings.  Aquinas got to Bardoni in the fifth, scoring a pair of runs on a RBI single by Mike Kaiser and RBI double from Aaron Gowell to take a 2-0 lead.

The Saints came right back to score three more in the sixth which proved to be enough for Giddings who went the distance, allowing just four Madonna hits and striking out five.

Bardoni (0-3) was saddle with the loss going five-and-two-thirds innings with a strikeout and two earned runs.  John McCracken (Pinckney, Mich.) came on to pitch the final inning-and-one-third.

Not lost in the split was the effort of Kennedy, who now owns the career strikeout record and is the only MU pitcher to reach 200 strikeouts in the 19-year history of Madonna baseball.  He currently stands at 204 career strikeouts.

The Crusaders will close their seven game home stand tomorrow afternoon (April 3) when the face Rochester College in a non-conference nine-inning contest beginning at 1:30 pm.
