–
Madonna University teammates Kevin Zerbo
and Will Kennedy were named WHAC
baseball Player and Pitcher of the Week respectively in the first week of honors
for the 2008 season.
Zerbo was MU’s leading hitter
over a 10-game stretch that saw the Crusaders post a 7-3 record including seven
straight wins while on their spring trip to the RussMatt Collegiate Tournament
in Arizona.
The junior hit .394 on the week
(13-for33) with nine runs scored, eight RBIs and a pair of home runs to lead the
Crusaders. Zerbo currently has a career best 12-game hitting streak.
Kennedy was named Pitcher of
the Week after two outings that saw him go 1-0 with a no-decision.
Kennedy posted a career day in
a complete game shut-out of Montana State-Billings. He fanned a career best 12
and allowed just two hits without a single run crossing the plate to even his
season record to
1-1.
He then appeared for one inning
of relief work versus NCAA DII SIU-Edwardsville, fanning three of the four
batters he faced. For the week, Kennedy struck out 15 over eight innings of
work with two hits allowed and no runs.
The Crusaders are
back in action Thursday, when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky, for the first
of a four-game series with Spalding University. First pitch Thursday from
Derby City Field in Louisville is scheduled for 7:00 pm
(ET).
