The final day of the 2007 Madonna baseball season lasted almost 11 hours,
featured a three hour rain delay and saw the final game of the day begin and
finish on two separate fields. When all was said and done, the Spring
Arbor Cougars staved off a final push by the Crusaders to win the NAIA Region
VIII championship 6-4.
Madonna forced a second championship game after scoring seven unanswered runs to
defeat Spring Arbor in the first game of the afternoon, 7-6.
With the Cougars ahead of MU 6-4 in the nightcap heading into the eighth inning,
the game was suspended due to a rain shower that lasted just over an hour which
forced the two teams to move fields.
Three hours and fifteen minutes later, the two teams resumed play on the
adjacent Morrison Field to finish up the final two innings of play.
Spring Arbor advances to the NAIA Super Regional next week.
The Crusaders wrap up the year after winning at least 30 games for the fourth
consecutive season under head coach Greg Haeger.
Following the championship game, sophomore second baseman Ryan Morrow was
honored as a member of the All-Region team.
