Crusaders Advance to Winners Bracket with 9-3 Win
MU bats pound out 15 hits in 9-3 tournament opener win over Aquinas

Eric Wendling went six innings to pick up the win versus Aquinas in WHAC tourney action Wednesday.

FORT WAYNE, Ind.
The Madonna offense came out with a vengeance Wednesday afternoon, scoring four times in the opening inning, setting the tone for a 9-3 WHAC tournament opening win over Aquinas.

Tony Luttman started the scoring with a monster two-run homer off the light tower in right field and Garrett Ignasiak later hit a solo-blast of his own off the scoreboard in left, staking MU to a 5-0 lead.

Wendling cruised his way through six innings, carrying a one-hitter into the seventh before giving way to reliever Mike Hand who came on with the bases loaded.

Hand would get out of the jam and pitch the final three innings with just one hit allowed to earn his fifth save of the season.

John McCracken helped pace the MU offensive attack with a 3-for-5 day while Kyle Fedorka, Gary VanAllen, Manny Alvarado and Luttman all delivered two hits on the afternoon.

VanAllen and Luttman each drove in three runs.

Wendling picked up the win, going six while allowing four hits and two earned runs for his sixth win of the season.

WIth the win, Madonna advances in the winners bracket to face top-seeded Indiana Tech at 7:00 pm tonight.

Aquinas falls into the losers bracket and will face Indiana Tech at 4:30 pm.
