ANN ARBOR, Mich.
Senior Matt Humenay (Westland, Mich./Churchill HS) put down a great bunt on a squeeze play which allowed senior Tony Luttman (Farmington, Mich./Farmington HS) to score the go ahead run as the Madonna baseball team completed the comeback in the nightcap to sweep a doubleheader from the host Concordia Cardinals, winning game one 16-3 and game two 7-6.

The Crusaders (27-16, 13-9 WHAC) trailed 2-0 in the eighth inning of the nightcap before busting out for five runs to claim a 5-2 lead.  However, Concordia (19-25, 9-11 WHAC) scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth to tie the game 5-5.

In the ninth inning, Kyle Fedorka (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS) led off with a single before being moved up to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Gary VanAllen (Dearborn, Mich./Crestwood HS).

Fedorka would score on the next at bat as Luttman doubled and advanced to third base after an error.

Humenay then stepped to the plate and gave MU a 7-5 lead with a bunt on the squeeze play.

Concordia was able to push across a run in the bottom of the ninth inning, but MU held on as Fedorka picked up the win in relief.

Garrett Ignasiak (Waterford, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's HS) led the Crusaders offensive attack in the nightcap with four hits.

In the opener, Madonna jumped out to an 8-1 lead after two innings of play.  The Crusaders scored seven runs in the second inning on six hits, which chased CUAA starter Ryan Burzycki from the game.

Madonna would cap off the contest with seven more runs in the seventh inning en route to the 16-3 decision.

Overall, the Crusaders would pound out 17 hits in the opener, led by Ryan Morrow (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy HS) who went 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Ryan Powell (Canton, Mich./Canton HS) picked up his first collegiate home run after belting a three-run shot in the seventh.

Eric Wendling
(New Lothrop, Mich./New Lothrop HS) earned the win after tossing six innings and allowing two runs on six hits, while striking out one batter.

Madonna will finish up league play Sunday in another doubleheader against Concordia.  First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Ilitch Ballpark.  Madonna will also honor their 10 seniors after the first game in a part of the Senior Day festivities.
