BOX SCORE

LIVONIA, Mich.
Sophomore outfielder Scott Boyer (Flat Rock, Mich./Flat Rock HS) belted a three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning to lift the Crusaders over visiting Northwood, 11-10, Tuesday afternoon at Ilitch Ballpark.

The Timberwolves (14-23) took a 9-6 lead into eighth inning after scoring five runs off Madonna (25-16, 11-9 WHAC) reliever
Ryan Bardoni (Warren, Mich./Warren Woods Tower HS).

The Crusaders came back in the bottom of the eighth inning as senior third baseman
Gary VanAllen (Dearborn, Mich./Crestwood HS) tripled to left field, scoring senior Kyle Fedorka (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS)

VanAllen scored as the next batter,
Zach Flavin (Novi, Mich./Novi HS), grounded out to second base to cut the Timberwolves lead to one run (9-8).

After a
Garrett Ignasiak (Waterford, Mich./Orchard Lake St. Mary's HS) single and a Tony Luttman (Farmington, Mich./Farmington HS) walk, Boyer stepped to the plate and put the Crusaders ahead for good.

Mike Hand (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS) came on in the ninth inning to pick up the save for Madonna.  Hand allowed a run on two hits, but stranded a pair of Northwood runners on the bases as he recorded the final out for the victory.

Mike Orehek (Livonia, Mich./Dearborn Crestwood HS) earned his team leading fifth win of the season after pitching two innings in relief and allowing just two hits.

Ignasiak led the Crusaders offensive attack with a 3-for-5 performance with four RBIs.  Ignasiak put the Crusaders on the board in the first inning with a three-run homer to left field.

Despite the loss, Northwood out-hit the Crusaders 16-10.

Madonna will return to action Wednesday, April 25 in a single nine-inning contest at Eastern Michigan.  Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. at Oestrike Stadium.
