GRAND RAPIDS,
Mich.
– The Madonna baseball team swept the weekly
Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference awards in an announcement released by the
league office Monday afternoon.
Senior two-way player
Kyle Fedorka
(White Lake,
Mich./Lakeland HS) was named WHAC Pitcher of the Week after tossing four
scoreless innings and earning a win in relief against Indiana Wesleyan in his
first appearance on the mound this season.
Fedorka had not thrown a pitch since April 23, 2006 before head coach Greg
Haeger put him on the hill against Indiana Wesleyan in the ninth inning.
Fedorka, who was named an NAIA All-America selection in 2004 as a closer, has
played most of this season at shortstop and earned his first win on the mound
since April 13, 2006.
Sophomore second baseman
Ryan Morrow
(Taylor, Mich./Kennedy HS) was named the conference's player of the
week after going 4-for-7 at the plate and hitting the game winning RBI double in
MU's 6-5 come-from-behind win over Indiana Wesleyan in 12 innings last week.
The transfer from Henry Ford Community College collected three singles, one
double, one RBI and a stolen base while posting a .571 batting average and .714
slugging percentage all in just one game.
Morrow currently leads the Crusaders with a .365 batting average and 19 runs
scored.
The Crusaders (14-11) will return to action Tuesday, April 10, at Ilitch
Ballpark in a doubleheader against Aquinas College at 2:00 p.m.
