Madonna Splits Again with Siena Heights
ADRIAN , Mich. – Just a day after splitting a doubleheader at Ilitch Ballpark, the Crusaders again split with Siena Heights, this time in Adrian. Madonna (13-11, 2-4 WHAC) won game one, 6-5, and Siena Heights (6-20, 2-4 WHAC) pounced on Madonna for an 11-2 win in game two.Madonna led 2-0 in the first game before the Saints scored four runs in the third inning to take a two-run lead. MU would answer right back in the fourth inning scoring three times to reclaim a one-run advantage (5-4). In the seventh inning, sophomore Ryan Morrow (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy HS) would reach on a fielder's choice before stealing second base and advancing to third on an error by the Siena Heights catcher. Morrow would then score the sixth run of the contest after an RBI fielder's choice by senior Kyle Fedorka (White Lake, Mich./Lakeland HS). The Saints would fall short in their comeback attempt in the home half of the seventh, but did push across one run against Josh Regits (Lake Orion, Mich./Lake Orion HS) who came on in relief of Mike Orehek (Livonia, Mich./Dearborn Crestwood HS) to pitch the final inning. Regits would pick up the save and Orehek would earn his third win of the season. In game two, Siena Heights capitalized on six errors by the Crusaders defense. The Saints would score five runs off MU starter Joe Kennedy (Belleville, Mich./Belleville HS), including four in the first inning. SHU would add two runs in the sixth off reliever Carl McDevitt (Canton, Mich./Canton HS), two in the seventh off Pedro Guerrero (Caohuila,Mexico/Centro of Bochillevata Technico) and two more in the eighth off Mike Jacques (Southgate, Mich./Anderson HS). Kennedy would pick up the loss after working four-and-one-thirds innings in the starting appearance for Madonna. Michael Schiller picked up the win for the Saints after pitching 6.1 innings and allowing eight hits, but only two runs. Madonna will return to action on Tuesday, April 3, in a make-up contest against Indiana Wesleyan at Ilitch Ballpark. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m.
