Madonna Bats Erupt in Home Opener, 23-2
LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Madonna baseball team opened the home portion of the schedule in style Tuesday, pounding out 19 hits in a 23-2 win over Rochester College. The Crusaders (11-7) scored in all but one inning on their way to the biggest margin of victory and most runs scored this season. Scott Boyer went 3-for-3 with two home runs, four runs scored and five runs batted in while John McCracken also hit a pair of dingers for MU. Six Crusaders posted multiple-hit games and 12 players had at least one hit in the game. The Crusaders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first and never looked back, staking starting pitcher Carl McDevitt to a 9-0 lead after five. McDevitt would give way to five Madonna relievers to finish the day, but earned his first win in a Crusader uniform. While McCracken and Boyer led the way offensively with five RBI's each, a trio of Crusaders posted multiple RBI games as well. Ryan Morrow had three driven in while Brad Sullens and Gary Rule each knocked in two in their home debuts.
Madonna will take their hot bats
into tomorrow's conference opener when they host Indiana Tech in a
double-header at Ilitch Ballpark. Game one is set to begin at
