Box Score

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Madonna baseball team closed out their four-game series at Spalding with a 6-3 victory Sunday afternoon.  Garrett Ignasiak's two-run single in the top of the ninth proved to be the game winner as Mike Hand picked up the win in relief.

Junior starting pitcher Will Kennedy was masterful for the Crusaders (10-7) fanning seven and allowing three runs in seven innings of work for a no-decision.

Senior shortstop Kyle Fedorka delivered a two-run single in the fourth inning before right fielder Tony Luttman smacked his team leading fifth home run of the season, a solo blast in the eighth, for the third run of the game.

Kennedy ran into a bit of trouble in the seventh, leaving the game with two on and nobody out.  Senior Mike Hand came in to relieve Kennedy in the eighth and gave up a two run triple by Kyle Bischoff to tie the game, 3-3.

MU came right back against the Golden Eagles bullpen as Ignasiak delivered the go-ahead two-run single in the ninth to give the Crusaders a 5-3 lead.

MU added an insurance run when Fedorka scored on a long single by Tony Luttman for a 6-3 lead.

Mike Hand worked his way through the final two innings to pick up the victory.

The Crusaders return home Tuesday (March 27) for the 2007 home opener at Ilitch Ballpark.  MU will face Rochester College (Mich.) in a single nine-inning contest at 2:00 p.m.
