LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- The Madonna baseball team split a doubleheader at Spalding Saturday afternoon at Derby City Field.  Junior lefthander Eric Wendling (New Lothrop, Mich./New Lothrop HS) pitched the Crusaders (9-7) to a 7-0 win in game one.  Spalding (15-13-1) came back to earn a split with a 3-1 win in the nightcap.

Wendling (3-0) worked five innings and allowed just two hits as he and
Ryan Brodowsky (Farmington, Mich./Farmington HS) combined for a shutout in game one.

Madonna plated five runs in the third inning, including a three-run homer by
Zach Flavin (Novi, Mich./Novi HS).

The Crusaders added two more runs in the fifth after
John McCracken (Pinckney, Mich./Pinckney HS) belted a two-run dinger to right center field.

Wendling struck out five batters and walked three to earn the win.

In game two, Madonna struck in the first inning after
Ryan Morrow (Taylor, Mich./Kennedy HS) scored on an RBI double off the bat of Garrett Ignasiak (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Mott HS).

Spalding scored two runs off MU starter
Ryan Bardoni (Warren, Mich./Warren Woods Tower HS) in the fourth inning to claim a one-run lead.

The Golden Eagles tacked on an insurance run off Bardoni (1-1) in the sixth inning before reliever
Mike Hand (Farmington Hills, Mich./North Farmington HS) took over and needed just one pitch before MU turned a 5-4-3 double play to get out of the inning.

The Crusaders offense was unable to push across any runs in the seventh while Spalding held on for the win.

Madonna and Spalding will finish out the four-game series on Sunday, March 25 at 11:00 a.m. ET
