Crusader Bats Come Alive in Sweep of Urbana
Luttman hits team high fourth homer in game one

Pensacola, Fla. – The Madonna baseball team moved to 6-4 on the season with a double-header sweep of Urbana 10-6 and 8-3 in Pensacola, Florida Thursday night.

In game one, Madonna scored twice in the first to take a quick lead.  Tony Luttman delivered a RBI single, scoring Kyle Fedorka for the games first run.  Dave Herrick later singled home Manny Alvarado for the 2-0 lead.

Starting pitcher Erick Wendling zipped through the first two innings before allowing two unearned runs in the third, tying the game 2-2.

MU came right back to score three times in the third on the fourth home run of the season by Luttman, taking a 5-2 lead.

Madonna added five more runs in the fourth when Zack Flavin delivered his first collegiate homer, a solo shot to lead off the inning for a 6-2 lead.  Back-to-back singles by Fedorka and Ryan Morrow and a fastball that hit Manny Alvarado loaded the bases .  Morrow scored on a wild pitch and Fedorka come home on a RBI single by Luttman.

Designated hitter Garrett Ignasiak later singled home Alvarado and Dave Herrick delivered a RBI sac fly for the 10-2 lead.

Wendling cruised from there until the seventh when Urbana scored four times, one off reliever John McCracken before MU retired the side for the 10-2 win.

In the nightcap, Madonna starter Will Kennedy cruised through the first two innings before leaving the game with one out in the third due to a leg injury. 

McCracken came on in relief as Urbana scored twice to take a 2-0 lead.

Madonna came back with a run in the fourth and six more in the sixth on their way to the 8-3 victory.

Scott Boyer was 1-for-1 with three RBI including the go-ahead two-run double in the sixth.

McCracken picked up the win in relief, going two-and-two-thirds for his first collegiate victory.

Madonna moves to 6-4 with the sweep while Urbana falls to 4-6.

The Crusaders are back in action Friday morning when they face Judson College in a double-header at Faulker State Community College in Bay Minette, Alabama.  First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 am (ET).
