War in 13-5 Loss
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Pensacola, Fla. – In a game dominated by the long ball and runs scored, Madonna came out short of Purdue North-Central in both categories Wednesday afternoon in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Madonna was out homered 6-3 and out scored 13-5 in the nine inning loss. MU jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a solo home run by catcher Garrett Ignasiak, the first of his Madonna career. The tide turned quickly from there as Madonna starting pitcher Pedro Guerrero didn’t make it out of the first inning, surrendering four hits, including three straight home runs and six earned runs before being lifted before recording a single out. Ryan Bardoni came on to get MU out of the first inning down 6-1.
Madonna scored twice more in the sixth on a two-run homer by Herrick, his first of the season, making it 9-5. But the PNC bats weren’t done, adding three in the sixth and one in the seventh, cruising to the 13-5 win. Guerrero picked up the loss, moving to 0-2 on the season. The defeat evens the Madonna record at 4-4 heading into a pair of games versus Urbana Thursday afternoon Madonna has split two games earlier in the week against the Blue Knights.
