MU Sweeps Away Hannibal
LaGrange, 8-4 and 6-0
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Pensacola, Fla. – In game one, Madonna used four straight scoring innings, including a three-run fifth, to defeat Hannibal-LaGrange (Mo.) 8-4 in game one of a double-header Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders also got a six-inning, five-hit performance from starting pitcher Joe Kennedy in the victory. MU fell
behind 1-0 in the first, as Kennedy battled nerves in his first start as a
Crusader. LaGrange took a 1-0 lead into the second when Madonna scored a pair
of runs, taking a 2-1 lead. The Crusaders added two more in the third when Kyle Fedorka delivered a one-out double, scoring Ryan Morrow. Fedorka later scored on a sacrifice fly by David Herrick. MU pushed across a run in the fourth on a solo homer by Manny Alvarado, his first of the season, and three more in the fifth. Alvarado doubled home pinch runner Matt Humenay then scored on a two-run single by Rodeghier. Kennedy surrendered two runs in the seventh, one earned, before leaving in favor of Mike Hand who gave up a RBI single before getting a double-play ball to end the game, 8-4. Rodeghier and Alvardo were the offensive stars of game one. Rodeghier was 2-for-3 with three RBI’s while Alvarado went 2-for-3 with two RBI’s and two runs scored.
MU got out to a 1-0 lead in the third on a RBI double from designated hitter Garrett Ignasiak, scoring Mike Cauzillo who reached on a fielder’s choice. The score remained 1-0 until the sixth when the Crusaders scored four times. Rodeghier and VanAllen delivered a RBI single and two-run double respectively to highlight the inning. While Orehek held the Trojans at bay, MU added an insurance run in the seventh on a RBI single by Ryan Powell, scoring Humenay. Orehek fanned the side in the seventh, closing out the 6-0 victory. The sweep pushed Madonna’s season record to 4-3 while Hannibal LaGrange fell to 2-4. Madonna will be back in action tomorrow morning when they face Purdue North-Central in a single 9-inning contest at Shoreline Park in Pensacola beginning at 11:00 am (ET).
