PENSACOLA, Fla. -- The Madonna baseball team ran their season record to 2-1 with a split of games Sunday in Pensacola, Florida at the RussMatt Collegiate Challenge.

In game one, Madonna hurler Will Kennedy fired a complete game three-hitter in a 5-0 blanking of Purdue-North Central.

Madonna scored all five runs in the second inning. After a Manny Alvarado walk and Ryan Morrow infield single, Dan Miller singled to load the bases before Kyle Fedorka was hit by a pitch to drive in the game's first run.

Miller and Morrow later scored on a fielder's choice by Gary VanAllen and a throwing error by the PNC pitcher.  A later error by the PNC second baseman allowed VanAllen to score, giving Kennedy all the cushion he would need.

The junior scattered three hits and struck out four in seven innings of work.

In the nightcap, starting pitcher Ryan Bardoni got off to a rocky start, allowing four runs in the top of the first inning as MU fell behind for the first time this season.

The MU offense would rebound for five runs of their own in the third when Fedorka singled to start the inning and advanced to second on a passed ball.  Tony Luttman's RBI single got the scoring started which was capped by the first collegiate hit and RBI by freshman Rikco Rhoades.

Freshman hurler Pedro Guerrero came on in relief in the fifth inning, and got a key double play ball, but then allowed a pinch-hit two-run homer in the sixth tying the game 6-6.  Guerrero returned to pitch the seventh and surrendered a Texas-league game winning RBI single with two out in the bottom of the seventh.

With the split, Madonna moves to 2-1 on the season heading into tomorrow's double-header in Bay Minette, Alabama against William Penn (Iowa) at Faulkner State Junior College.

Game time for the front end is set for 11:00 am (ET).
