KANSAS CITY, Mo. - -
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced its
selections for the 2007-08 Scholar Teams and eight Madonna squads were selected.
Women's
basketball, men's cross country and women's cross country, men's golf, men's and
women's soccer, softball and volleyball were all sited for having a team grade
point average above a 3.00.
"We are extremely proud of the academic achievement of our student-athletes,"
commented Madonna Athletics Director Bryan Rizzo. "It is especially
gratifying to see such excellence in the classroom in a year where we
experienced a significant amount of athletic success as well. Hopefully this
exemplifies our commitment to the academic success of our student-athletes."
The
academic awards follow on the heels of a successful season in the playing arena
as MU captured regular season WHAC titles in men's soccer and volleyball in the
fall before wrapping up the spring with baseball and softball titles. Baseball,
softball and volleyball also captured their respective WHAC tournament
championships with men's soccer joining volleyball with a NAIA Region VIII title
and a trip to the National Tournament.
MU also
led the tally amongst its conference rivals, easily outpacing Indiana Tech (4),
Siena Heights (3), Cornerstone (2) and Davenport (1).
