Patrick Daugherty
begins his third season as head coach of Madonna's men's
and women's cross country programs.
Daugherty, who is the only coach the program has
ever known, has steadily improved both teams in
each of his two previous seasons.
Prior to coming to
Madonna, Daugherty was
an assistant boys track and cross country coach at Livonia
Churchill High School from 2002 to 2004.During his tenure on the Churchill staff, the team set school
records in the 800m and 3200m relay. Daugherty also coached the 3200m relay team
to three regional championships and state qualification from 2001-2003 and three
individual 800m state qualifiers and one 1600m qualifier.
In addition to his Churchill experience, Daugherty has also served as the
head boy’s and girl’s cross country coach at Frost Middle School in Livonia and
is a P.E./Health teacher at Churchill high.
The 34-year-old Daugherty (April
7, 1972) is a native of Norfolk, VA but grew up in
southeastern Michigan and attended both Central and Eastern Michigan
Universities. After completing his undergraduate degree from Central Michigan in
1994, Daugherty earned his teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan in 1999
and his master's degree in Educational Leadership in 2005.
An avid runner, Daugherty has run numerous long distance races over the past
12 years including starting a finishing seven
different marathons including the Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta and Boston marathon.
