Chuck Henry
Head Men's Basketball Coach
Champions of Character Director

Hometown: Canton, MI
Education: Eastern Michigan University

Chuck Henry begins his fourth year at the helm of the Madonna University men's basketball program in the 2007-08 season.  Henry was named head coach on March 18, 2004, becoming just the third coach in school history.

Henry has steadily improved the Crusaders year-to-year by increasing the program's win total in each of his three seasons.  In 2006-07, Henry led the Crusaders to a program best fourth place finish in conference play, which also brought the first ever home playoff game in school history to the Activities Center.  Overall, Henry guided the club to a 12-19 mark, which placed this team second in school history for wins in a season.

Henry's team
notched a couple of memorable games in MU history last season after knocking off 19th-ranked Aquinas in the Activities Center on Parent's Night (February 12, 2007) and coming back from a 16-point second half deficit to defeat Concordia (January 24, 2007).

Following the 2006-07 season, Henry was honored by the league by being named WHAC Coach of Character for displaying the NAIA's five core values of respect, responsibility, integrity, servant leadership and sportsmanship which are key components of the Champions of Character program.

A veteran of nearly three decades as a head coach on the high school level, Henry came to Livonia after a four-year stint as head coach at Agape Christian Academy in Canton, Michigan.  Henry spent the majority of his coaching career as the head man at Wayne Memorial High School where he racked up most of his 427 career wins and 179 losses.

Henry, 54, established himself as a premier coach in the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) where he won 11 league titles, seven district championships, three regional titles, three class A quarterfinal championships and appeared in two class A 'Final Four' games with Wayne Memorial.

His ability to produce top flight talent hasn't gone unnoticed as three players under his tutelage received full scholarships to NCAA DI institutions and eight more have received full rides to DII schools.  Former Crusaders Jordan Napier and Charlie Henry are the latest two Henry products to earn collegiate scholarships.

Henry's list of coaching accolades is a long one which includes being named the Associated Press Coach of the Year, two-time Westland Observer Coach of the Year, two-time Detroit News Metro Coach of the Year, Detroit Free Press Coach of the Year and Catholic League Coach of the Year among other awards.

Henry also works as a part-time faculty member at Madonna, helping to create a Physical Education minor and will spend time as Madonna's Champions of Character Program Director, encouraging student-athletes to fulfill the five core values of the national program.

Henry and his wife, Margaret, have five children; daughters Amy, Margie and Danielle and sons Charlie and Donald.
