TAMPA, Fla. - The National Association of
Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and Sports Information Directors of America
(SIDA) announced the results of their annual Publications Contest, with the
Madonna tandem of Matt Fancett and Patrick Moore earning five total awards,
highlighted by a "Best in the Nation" selection for the 2007 volleyball media
guide and a "Best Cover" nod for the 2008 baseball media guide.
In addition to the first place finish
for volleyball and a fourth place overall finish for the baseball guide, the
2007-08 MU men's basketball guide took home a top-10 placing while the MU
women's basketball guide, created cover-to-cover by Moore, earned a
seventh-place finish.
The honors by NAIA-SIDA come on the
heels of last week's announcement by the College Sports Information
Directors of America (COSIDA) who honored Madonna's SID office with a fourth
place national finish for the 2007 volleyball guide.
The most recent awards for the MU
Sports Information Office bring the total during Fancett's tenure to 11 top
five media guide finishes and two top-five website awards. He has now
been honored with a pair of #1 media guides (2007 volleyball, 2003-04
basketball), two #1 covers (2008 baseball, 2006 baseball) and a #1 website
(2005-06).
"It is always nice to be recognized
by your peers," commented Fancett. "To have SIDs around the country
view your work among the best across the nation is always a nice feeling."
The latest round of awards are made
even more special, according to Fancett, because of the group effort
involved in producing this batch of publications.
"Being able to share these honors
with Patrick makes this years honors more special," Fancett stated.
"It was a group effort on every guide and in the case of women's basketball,
Patrick deserves 100% of the credit."
